We have started our third week of our Sand and Water unit. Our whole class loves playing with water and sand outside! We went on a water treasure hunt looking for different sources of water around school and mixed colored water to learn about colors and volume while improving our hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Last week we focused more on sand and did a couple different types of sand paintings. This week we are starting to learn about what lives in water and sand; we are also decorating the classroom at the same time!
Thank you for being so supportive and particularly for sending a change of clothes every day while we’re getting wet and dirty! We are accompanying this unit with songs about water, such as the Itsy Bitsy Spider, 5 Little Ducks, 5 Little Speckled Frogs, and Row Row Row Your Boat. And, we are getting a lot of learning in during water and sand play including counting, color sorting and identification.
We’re continuing to reinforce the practice of using words to express ourselves, particularly our emotions, such as anger. We recently finished learning about the color red, letter “D”, and squares. Last week and this week we are learning about the color green, the sound of the letter “S” (for sand!), and triangles.
Teaching Assistant, Ms. Irama, is helping out more in our classroom as Ms. Sira is back from maternity leave and supporting in Pre-K 3. We are happy to have Mr. Irama in our classroom! Ms. Blessing still helps out when needed and always stops by to say hello to the kids.
This week is also Sofia’s last week this school year. She will be traveling soon to become a big sister and we will welcome her back next school year when she starts Pre-K 3. As Sofia leaves us, we expect a new student to join us on April 10.
Enjoy your Spring Break and I look forward to seeing everyone in April!
